Moorabbin Fokkers
History
Let the Games Begin.
Local bearing company, Bearing Solutions has become the major sponsor to a team of local hockey players "The Moorabbin Fokkers" in the World Masters Games 2002, which is being played at various venues around Melbourne this week.
.
The World Masters Games which started on Saturday 5th Oct will finish with a closing celebration on Sunday 13th Oct at the Telstra Dome (formerly Colonial Stadium.)
.
World renowned team manager Paul Fanshawe has just returned from the UK, and is cautiously optimistic about the teams performance in the games. The team is entered in the over 35's category, but the average age of the members is closer to 50. Speed, agility and fitness are not considered the strong points of the team, however, some skill, ability, and a power of determination are touted as their key assets.
.
With most of the team members having played in the local veteran hockey competitions for many years, such great names as Lard, Poxy, Kooka and Loggy are hard to forget, and will certainly shine through in the competition. If the team can hold up against injuries and late night celebrations, then the 15 man squad will certainly make their presence felt in the competition.
.
Hockey stalwart John Parker and ex salesman from Bearing Solutions says that, "It's not very oftenthat you get a chance to compete in the World Masters Games, and for most of the players - it is an opportunity too good to miss.
The Moorabbin Fokkers are also being co-sponsored by:
www.toner.aus.to
Cartridge Co, ELK Promotional Products, and TINA's Therapeutic Massages.
.
Bearing Solutions also sponsored the Liqui Moly Torana in the improved production car series at Sandown and Phillip Island this year.
.
They are a relatively new company to the Dandenong area, having only just recently taken over the running of the Central Bearings branch in Cheltenham Road, next to the old sale yard paddocks. Although only having been in the area for 12 months, their presence is already starting to be appreciated by many of the other local industries.
