The Saturday night action saw the Slammers hosting the Lady Hawks with a big job ahead to try and hand them their first loss of the season.

The comforts of home at Eaton Recreation Centre didn’t quite help the Slammers, though, and they managed just six points in each of the first two quarters with Perry Lakes taking a commanding 33-12 lead into half-time.

South West did manage 19 points to 15 in the third period but only scored another six in the fourth with the Hawks cruising to the 62-37 win to improve to 8-0 on the season.

Nat Burton led the way for the Lady Hawks with 17 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Emily Burton added 16 points and eight boards off the bench with Toni Farnworth (nee Edmondson) contributing 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Lauren Jeffers four points, eight assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Brittany Hodges top-scored for the Slammers with 14 points and 15 rebounds with Courtney Bayliss adding nine points and five boards.

The Magic then put their undefeated run to start the season on the line against East Perth at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre.

It was a similar story with Mandurah starting strongly and leading by 11 points by quarter-time. The Eagles did fight hard and compete strongly, but the Magic had too much firepower and ended up winning by 18 points to improve to a 7-0 record.

Carly Boag had another outstanding game for the Magic with the WNBL championship winner finishing with 26 points, 17 rebounds, four blocked shots, three steals and two assists while shooting 11-of-20 from the field and 4-of-5 at the foul line.

Nici Gilday added 16 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists for Mandurah while Casey Mihovilovich contributed 11 points, six boards and three assists, and Bree Klasztorny 10 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Nicole Jorre St Jorre continues to set an outstanding example for her East Perth teammates finishing with another 22 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Kaylee Kilpatrick added 13 points and three rebounds for the Eagles.

Then at Wally Hagan Stadium, the defending champion Tigers continued to build momentum this season with a strong 15-point win over the Cougars.

The Tigers were coming off good wins over the Flames and Slammers last weekend, and started well again on Saturday night to lead the Cougars by five points at quarter-time.

They extended that advantage to eight by half-time, 10 by three quarter-time and 15 by the final buzzer.

Stacey Barr continued the standout start to her career with the Tigers delivering another 29 points and seven rebounds.

Zoe Harper added 18 points and 13 rebounds for Willetton while Jess Hootmann finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Desiree Kelley eight points, seven boards and three steals, and Kate Malpass six points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Despite being a competitive group, Cockburn slipped to 1-8 with the loss despite 19 points and 12 rebounds from Kersten Mitchell.

Taryn Priestly added 16 points for the Cougars with Brianna Moyes contributing 13 points and Lindsey Doucette seven to go with 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

The round concludes on Sunday with the Kalamunda Eastern Suns hosting the South West Slammers.
