Welcome to X's and O's, where each week we get a little bit more personal with one of the Head Coaches from around the League! This week on the ‘Whiteboard’, we have the Men's Coach from the PrintSync South West Slammers - Charles Nix

 

Toughest venue in the League to play at and why?

CN: Geraldton – It’s the combination of the drive (last few years we’ve flown to Kalgoorlie which makes that so much easier) and the passionate support that the Buccs get. No matter where the teams are respectively that place is always loud and in your face, at times it’s hard to communicate with the guys on the floor because of the sheer volume.

 

Who is the best player you have coached and what were the key things they bought to the team?

CN: Without including my current team members - The best player I’ve coached would be Ben Purser. The ultimate professional in all aspects of what he does not just in basketball but in life – captain, All-star, Lawyer, all-round nice guy and absolute rooster. Extremely hard worker that has an above average IQ, elite defender that could defend all 5 positions at SBL level.

 

You get to coach one other team in the League - who is it, who is your dream opponent and why did you choose who you did?

CN: I’ve only just started with the Slammers so let me work this out first….hahaha. Really happy with where I am and the group of men we have, the future looks promising.

 

You're Adam Bowler for a day - what's one thing you would change about the League?

CN: Adam’s doing a fantastic job and is making improvements every year. I’m not qualified to make these decisions so I’ll leave it up to him.

 

Do you have any superstitions? If so what are they and how did they come to be

CN: I don’t have any superstitions but I do wear the same socks to every game. My son bought me some elephant socks for Christmas and now they are my game night socks, so not a superstition at all but just a reminder of why I grind like I do.

10. What came first - Chicken or the Egg? The egg, you can get a full blown chicken until it is fed and nurtured. Things take time to grow and develop and if it is done right it’ll be a kick-ass chicken.
