Week 4 Saturday night Men's SBL results

SATURDAY night's Men's SBL action saw the Geraldton Buccaneers bounce back from a rare home loss, the East Perth Eagles hand the Joondalup Wolves its first loss of 2017 and the Kalamunda Eastern Suns make it two wins for the weekend.

Week 4 began on Friday night with the Perth Redbacks beating the East Perth Eagles 96-83, the Willetton Tigers downing the Perry Lakes Hawks 77-74, the Kalamunda Eastern Suns defeating the Mandurah Magic 101-86 and the Rockingham Flames winning over the Lakeside Lightning 98-83.

There were then three games on Saturday night with the Geraldton Buccaneers prevailing over the Cockburn Cougars 89-75, the East Perth Eagles beating the Joondalup Wolves 94-86 and the Kalamunda Eastern Suns defeating the Goldfields Giants 84-66.

The Buccaneers hosted the Cougars looking to exact some revenge for losing last year's semi-final series against Cockburn along with bouncing back from a rare home loss last Saturday night to the Willetton Tigers.

The Buccs did that and ended up winning by 14 points but they had to do it the hard way with a big last quarter where they pulled away from the Cougars to score the victory.

Mo Barrow, Jackson Hussey and Dwayne Benjamin all delivered strong performance to lead Geraldton to the victory.

Hussey finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds with Benjamin adding 21 points, four boards and three assists and Barrow 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Matthew Hancock added 11 points as well for the Buccaneers.

Jalen Billups top-scored for the Cougars with 20 points and five rebounds with Lochlan Cummings contributing 14 points and eight boards, Rhett Della 12 points and six rebounds, and Gavin Field 10 points and five boards.

The Eagles hosted the undefeated Wolves at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre marking the first time for Kevin Davis to play for East Perth against Joondalup where he spent the past two seasons.

He proved a major difference in the result too with the Eagles handing the Wolfpack their first loss of the season with an eight-point win after coming from five points down at three quarter-time to do so.

Davis was terrific finishing with 26 points, 13 rebounds, two blocked shots and two assists while playing over 35 minutes of court time.

Mason Bragg also delivered a strong performance for East Perth with 23 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists while Drew Williamson contributed 20 points, five boards, four assists and three steals.

Dennis Tawhiti added 12 points and five rebounds as well for the Eagles with Kevin Anthony scoring 10 points.

Trian Iliadis top-scored for the Wolves with 20 points to go with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Seb Salinas added 14 points for Joondalup, Richard Ross 11 and Rob Huntington 10 to go with five rebounds and three steals.

The night concluded with the Eastern Suns backing up their first win of the season on Friday night in Mandurah by beating the Giants by 18 points at Ray Owen Sports Centre.

The Suns took the confidence from an improved second half last week against the Perth Redbacks to beat Mandurah on Friday and continued that at home to Goldfields on Saturday with a 51-35 first half to set up the eventual 18-point win.

Courtney Belger again showed his value to Kalamunda with 21 points, nine assists, four steals and four rebounds as did Kerrod Horn with 18 points and four boards.

Ryan Blanchett added 11 points and six rebounds for the Eastern Suns with Jono Diaz contributing eight points, six rebounds and three assists.

Jacob Holmen delivered 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists for the Giants with JB Pillard 19 points and 12 boards. But the rest of the team only managed a combined 21 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists.

Week 4 will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the Willetton Tigers taking on the Goldfields Giants and the Stirling Senators facing on the winless South West Slammers who will finally welcome back Brian Voelkel for the first time in 2017.
