Week 4 Friday night Men's SBL results

THE Kalamunda Eastern Suns recorded their first win in the Men's SBL on Friday night while the Perth Redbacks remained undefeated as the Willetton Tigers and Rockingham Flames were the other victors.

There were four Men's SBL games on Friday night with the Perth Redbacks defeating the East Perth Eagles 96-83.

The Willetton Tigers also beat the Perry Lakes Hawks 77-74, the Kalamunda Eastern Suns defeated the Mandurah Magic 101-86 and the Rockingham Flames prevailed over the Lakeside Lightning 98-83.

Willetton was coming off a big win in Geraldton last week with the inclusion of Ray Turner and the Tigers made a fast start against the Hawks at Bendat Basketball Centre.

Willetton hit 27 points to 17 in the first quarter and then survived a Perry Lakes fight back to hold on and win by three points.

Jay Bowie returned for the Tigers and had 15 points and 12 rebounds with Turner contributing 12 points and 10 boards.

Lachie Evans was the surprise packet off the bench for Willetton with 17 points while Kyle Armour contributed 10 points and five assists, Damien Scott nine points and Nic Cody seven.

Matthew Adekponya made his first appearance for Perry Lakes and performed well with 20 points and five rebounds. Brian Carlwell added 16 points and 13 boards for the Hawks and Robert Waters 15 points.

The Redbacks continued their unbeaten start to the season even without Alex Loughton, Michael Vigor and Lee Roberts beating the Eagles by 13 points at Belmont Oasis.

Perth did have to come from behind at three quarter-time to win however. East Perth led 66-63 at the last change but the Redbacks got going in the fourth period with 33 points to 17 to win by 13.

Shawn Redhage played all 40 minutes of the game for the Redbacks and ended up with 27 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.

Ben Smith had a good game for Perth too with 24 points and six rebounds nailing 5-of-11 from three-point range.

Riley Chappell stood up for the Redbacks for 12 points with Diing Mawein contributing 12 points and Joel Wagner 10 to go with six assists.

Kevin Davis had his best game since joining East Perth with 29 points and 17 rebounds with Dennis Tawhiti contributing 19 points and eight boards and Drew Williamson 11 points.

Rockingham got back on the winner's list defeating Lakeside by 15 points at home on Friday night thanks to a dominant second half.

Donovan Jack had another standout performance for the Flames with 30 points and six rebounds with Ryan Godfrey contributing 19 points, four rebounds and four assists, Vinnie Zollo 19 points, seven boards and seven assists, and Justin Beard nine points and seven rebounds.

Devon Atkinson top-scored for the Lightning with 20 points and eight assists with James Padgett adding 19 points and seven rebounds, Daniel Grida 15 points and five assists, and Corey Shervill 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Mandurah then hosted its first home game since the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre redevelopment, but it was Kalamunda who left celebrating its first win of the season beating the Magic by 15 points.

Kerrod Horn had a standout performance for the Eastern Suns with 29 points hitting six of his 12 three-point attempts.

Courtney Belger added 22 points and nine rebounds for Kalamunda while Tim Squire finished with 17 points and Brighton Pass 10.

Ricky Kreklow had an improved showing for the Magic with 23 points and six rebounds with Taylor Mullenax also finishing with 23 points and four boards.

Fletcher Klasztorny added 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench for Mandurah and Sam Julitz eight points and four boards.

There are three games in the Men's SBL on Saturday night with the Geraldton Buccaneers playing the Cockburn Cougars, the East Perth Eagles taking on the Joondalup Wolves and the Kalamunda Eastern Suns facing the Goldfields Giants.

Then there are two more games on Sunday with the Willetton Tigers taking on the Goldfields Giants and the Stirling Senators facing the South West Slammers.
