Week 3 Friday night Women's SBL results

THE Lakeside Lightning scored their second win of the season on Friday night in the Women's SBL and the Perry Lakes Hawks remained unbeaten to open the Week 3 action.

The two Friday night Women's SBL fixtures saw the Lakeside Lightning defeat the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 76-70 at Lakeside Recreation Centre and the Perry Lakes Hawks beat the Cockburn Cougars 66-61 at Wally Hagan Stadium.

Starting at Lakeside, the Lightning were coming off splitting their opening two games against the South West Slammers and Mandurah Magic before hosting the winless Eastern Suns.

It was all the Lightning for the opening three quarters as well as they led by 19 points heading into the fourth period. The Suns put up a good fight in the last term with 25 points to 12 but Lakeside held on to win by six.

Ali Schwagmeyer led the way for the Lightning with the reigning MVP delivering 21 points despite seven turnovers.

Sydnee Fipps ended up with 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists with Paris Duffield contributing nine points and Alecia Knowles nine.

Jennie Rintala did all she could for the Eastern Suns contributing 31 points and 12 rebounds. Tahlia Fejo also had 16 points and four assists but the Suns were still without Devanny King who missed the chance to play the team she was with in 2016.

The Cougars then played their home opener of the season hosting the Hawks coached by Cockburn's former playing-coach Deanna Smith.

The Lady Hawks had started the season well beating the Stirling Senators and Kalamunda Eastern Suns, and continued that good form holding on against a fast-finishing Cougars to win by five points.

Toni Edmondson top-scored for Perry Lakes with 16 points and four rebounds with her Perth Lynx teammate Nat Burton adding 13 points and four boards.

Sarah Donovan has started the season well and had another 14 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists for the Hawks as well.
