Week 10 Women's SBL Wrap

A MAMMOTH 55 points from three-time Women's SBL MVP Sami Whitcomb might have been the standout performance of Week 10 but the Joondalup Wolves, Lakeside Lightning and Perth Redbacks were among the teams to win impressively.

Whitcomb's 55 points was remarkable in the Flames' win over the Slammers on Friday night but the Tigers won a thriller over a vastly improved Magic on Saturday after Mandurah won on Friday while the Lightning, Wolves and Redbacks continued their good runs of form.

Week 10 began with four matches on Friday night that saw the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro City of Joondalup Wolves defeat the Bethanie Stirling Senators 71-47, the Mandurah Magic down the Lapa Brazilian BBQ Restaurant Cockburn Cougars 73-64, the Lakeside Lightning beat the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 100-85 and the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames knock off the Print Sync South West Slammers 88-78.

There were two more matches on Saturday night with the Textile WA Perth Redbacks beating the Perry Lakes Hawks 103-72 and the Goodlife Homes Willetton Tigers defeating the Mandurah Magic 71-68.

The weekend's results leave the Goodlife Homes Willetton Tigers (10-1) sitting atop the Women's SBL standings ahead of the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro City of Joondalup Wolves (8-1) and Orange Autos Rockingham Flames (10-2).

There is then a bit of a gap back to the Perry Lakes Hawks (7-4), Textile WA Perth Redbacks (6-5), Lakeside Lightning (5-5), Lapa Brazilian BBQ Restaurant Cockburn Cougars (5-6) and Kalamunda Eastern Suns (4-6).

Just outside the top eight are the Mandurah Magic (4-7) followed by the Bethanie Stirling Senators (4-8), Schweigen Home Appliances East Perth Eagles (1-9) and Print Sync South West Slammers (0-10).

The Week 10 Women's SBL Team of the Week is of course made up by Sami Whitcomb of the Rockingham Flames along with Kate Malpass from the Willetton Tigers, Candace Williams from the Cockburn Cougars and Lakeside Lightning pair Alison Schwagmeyer and Ashleigh Grant.

Whitcomb delivered the most imposing performance of the season to date in the Flames' hard fought 10-point win over the Slammers on Friday.

The Cougars narrowly lost to the Magic on Friday but not without a tremendous performance from Williams who delivered 27 points, 13 rebounds and four steals to be named to the Team of the Week for a fourth time this season.
