Four-game Friday night to open weekend's action (Week 11 Women's SBL Preview)

FOUR games on Friday night and then one each on Saturday and Sunday will make up the women's SBL action for Week 11 as positions inside and outside the top eight begin to take shape.

It's a massive Friday night of action to begin the round with four matches and each of them tipping off at 6.30pm.

The Perth Redbacks play the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames at Curtin Stadium, the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers host the Mandurah Magic at Eaton Recreation Centre, the Lakeside Lightning take on the Schweigen East Perth Eagles at Lakeside Recreation Centre and the Soprano Designs Cockburn Cougars battle the Kalamunda Eastern Suns at Wally Hagan Stadium.

There is then just the one match on Saturday night with the Stirling Senators hosting the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro Joondalup City Wolves at Warwick Leisure Centre at 6pm.

Then on Sunday at midday, the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro Joondalup City Wolves take on the Lakeside Lightning at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Starting on Friday night at Curtin, the Flames will be looking to further consolidate their position on top of the women's SBL standings up against the Redbacks.

Rockingham beat the Willetton Tigers in a top-of-the-table clash last Saturday night to have now won three matches in-a-row, and to sit on a 10-1 record.

The defending champions take on a Perth team that returned to the winner's list last Saturday night beating the South West Slammers. That came on the back of a six-match losing streak for the Redbacks.

The Redbacks and Flames have already met once this season with Rockingham ending up recording an 87-64 victory at Mike Barnett Sports Complex back in Week 3.

The Slammers started the season so impressively winning their first four matches, but they have now lost six of seven since to be only just clinging to a spot in the top eight with a 5-6 record heading into Friday night's clash with the Magic.

Mandurah comes into the game having returned to the winner's list last Friday night beating the Lakeside Lightning by a point and that sees the Magic sit in fourth position on the table with a 9-3 record.

The Slammers and Magic already played one another back in Week 4 this season and it was a tight affair at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre that the Magic ended up winning 74-67.

The Lightning and Eagles might have combined for just three wins in 22 attempts between them so far this season, but both teams have been far more competitive than that suggests.

Coming off making the grand final last year, it took until two weeks ago for Lakeside to record its first win of the season when they downed the Perth Redbacks but there had been a host of close calls prior to that.

The Lightning then fell just one-point short against the Mandurah Magic last Friday night while the Eagles are showing terrific improvement this season under new coach Narelle Henry.

East Perth's two wins this season have come within its last three games as well before last week's loss to the Joondalup Wolves, and now either the Lightning or Eagles will be looking to taste that winning feeling again on Friday night this week.

The Cougars and Suns meet for the second time this season with the two teams having played off in the quarter finals last year that saw the Eastern Suns end up prevailing in three games in an enthralling series.

Now already this season little separates the two teams with Cockburn coming into Friday's clash on a 6-7 record in seventh position while Kalamunda holds a 5-5 record to be in sixth spot.

The Cougars and Suns already played back in Week 5 of this season following their playoff meeting in 2014. And back on April 11, it was the Suns who on a 78-75 thriller at Ray Owen Sports Centre.

The lone match on Saturday night pits the Senators up against the Wolves with Stirling looking to snap a four-match losing run and improve on a 2-9 record, while the Lady Wolfpack will be out for a third straight victory and improve on their 9-2 record to stay in touch for a top two spot.

The northern suburbs rivals already met earlier this season back in Week 4 of the competition, with the Lady Wolfpack scoring a 92-62 win on that occasion at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

The Wolves then have a short turnaround from Saturday night to then host the Lightning on Sunday at Joondalup Basketball Stadium. Lakeside will also be coming off having played East Perth on Friday night.
