Double wins for the Tigers and Flames (Week 3 Friday night SBL wrap)

THE Willetton Tigers and Rockingham Flames women's SBL teams remained unbeaten after wins in Friday night's action while the Tigers and Flames men's outfits also recorded impressive wins to open the third round of action.

The two women's matches on Friday night saw the Willetton Tigers beat the Cockburn Cougars 80-69 at Willetton Basketball Stadium and the Rockingham Flames down the Perth Redbacks 87-64 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

And then in the men's contests on Friday night, the Willetton Tigers beat the Cockburn Cougars 104-102 at Willetton Basketball Stadium and the Rockingham Flames downed the Perth Redbacks 106-86 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

The Lady Tigers continued their unbeaten start to the 2015 women's SBL season with an 11-point win over the Cougars at home on Friday night.

Zoe Harper had a big game for Willetton finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds with Louella Tomlinson again putting in a stunning all-round performance with 17 points, 12 boards and seven blocked shots.

Kate Malpass had another good game for the Tigers with 15 points and eight rebounds with Desiree Kelly adding 13 points and Ebony Antonio eight to go with eight assists and five boards.

The Rockingham women also remain unbeaten to date in 2015 after a 23-point win over the Redbacks at home on Saturday night.

Samantha Whitcomb was outstanding for the Flames coming off her MVP season in 2014 finishing with 25 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Darcee Garbin also had 16 points and 10 boards for Rockingham while Talisia Bourne contributed 16 points, Tarsha Fletcher 12 and Kate Williams 11 to go with four rebounds and two assists.

Gabby Clayton did all she could for the Redbacks finishing with 26 points and five rebounds with Meike Elkington adding 18 points, five rebounds and four assists.

And in the men's action, the Tigers won a two-point thriller over the Cougars with Willetton withstanding a ferocious second half comeback from Cockburn.

The Tigers were in control of the contest lead 62-44 at half-time, but the Cougars then put on 29 points to 19 in the third period and 29 to 23 in the last to put a real scare into the home team but ultimately come up just short.

The game provided Damien Scott with his first chance to play his former side since crossing from Cockburn to Willetton over the summer, and he finished with 22 points, four rebounds and three steals for the Tigers while shooting 9-of-24 from the field and 3-of-13 from downtown.

Kyle Armour also had 22 points and seven assists for Willetton while Ephrem Davis contributed 15 points, 11 boards, three blocks, two steals and two assists.

Corey Easley added 12 points and eight rebounds from the bench while Nic Cody finished with 11 points, 11 boards, four assists and four blocks. Mitchell Clarke also had 11 points and five assists.

Najee Lane did all he could for the Cougars finishing with 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Gavin Field had another good night leading his team with 25 points, seven boards and four assists.

Eric Milam added 22 points and seven rebounds, and Sheldon McIntyre 10 points and seven boards.

The Flames scored a 20-point victory over the Redbacks in Friday night's other men's fixture to remain unbeaten from three matches this season while Perth slips to a 1-3 record.

Cooper Land again delivered a strong performance for Rockingham with 28 points, nine rebounds and five assists with Tom Remmerswaal adding 22 points and seven boards.

Travis Moore contributed 12 points and four rebounds from the bench with Luke Roberts adding 10 points and Taylor Land 10 points to go with 13 rebounds and 13 assists in a triple-double performance.

Ray Turner led the way for the Redbacks with 23 points and eight rebounds with Dennis Tawhiti contributing 13 points and nine boards, Joel Wagner 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, and Marshall Brown 10 points and six boards.

Adam Johnston added 14 points, four rebounds and two assists from the bench.
