Tigers, Redbacks look for first win (Week 4 Women's SBL Preview)

THERE are seven huge women's SBL matches spread over three days in Week 4 action starting on Friday night with the Perth Redbacks and Willetton Tigers desperate for their first wins of the 2014 campaign.

The Tigers and Redbacks are the only two remaining women's SBL teams without a victory so far in 2014 and they meet on Friday night at Belmont Oasis.

Friday night's other fixture pits the Perry Lakes Hawks up against the Cockburn Cougars at the WA Basketball Centre. Both games tip-off at 6.30pm.

There are then three matches on Saturday with the Schweigen East Perth Eagles hosting the Mandurah Magic at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre, and the Stirling Senators taking on the Kalamunda Eastern Suns at Warwick Leisure Centre with both those matches starting at 6pm.

Then at 6.30pm on Saturday night, the rescheduled clash between the Willetton Tigers and Perry Lakes Hawks will take place at Willetton Basketball Stadium.

The round will then conclude with two matches on Sunday beginning at midday with the Joondalup Wolves hosting the Perth Redbacks at Joondalup Basketball Stadium, and then at 2pm the Lakeside Lightning battle the Schweigen East Perth Eagles at Lakeside Recreation Centre.

On Friday night, Perth and Willetton battle it out looking for its first win of the campaign with the Redbacks making a horror start after some big player losses over the off-season.

The Redbacks have lost their opening four games to Rockingham, Stirling, Perry Lakes and Mandurah by an average of 38 points while the Tigers have lost their first three matches to Joondalup, Rockingham and Cockburn coming off being last year's minor premiers.

Friday's other clash pits the 1-1 Hawks against the unbeaten from three games Cougars.

Perry Lakes started its season with a 17-point loss to Mandurah before bouncing back with an 18-point win over Perth a fortnight ago. Cockburn, meanwhile, has started off tremendously with wins over Kalamunda, Willetton and Mandurah.

Saturday night then pits the 1-2 Eagles up against the 2-2 Magic with East Perth already matching last year's one-win record while Mandurah has also shown good signs so far in 2014.

The Senators then host the Eastern Suns with Stirling entering on a 1-1 record with the Suns on 1-2 after finally getting on the board with a win last week coming off last year's grand final appearance.

Both the Tigers and Hawks then back up from playing on Friday night to play out a fixture that should have taken place last Saturday night had it not been for power failure in the area surrounding Willetton Basketball Stadium.

Sunday then pits last year's champions Joondalup up against the winless Perth while the Lightning also hosts the Eagles.

It will be Lakeside's only appearance of the weekend with the Lightning entering the clash at home on Sunday unbeaten from their first two games of 2014.
