After finalising the girls side earlier today, AFL Darling Downs have now announced the final Under 14 Darling Downs Demons squad to compete at the Under 14 – Boys AFL Queensland State Championships that commence on September 18th on the Sunshine Coast.
The squad was selected across several months including summer development program, club matches, talent trials and school footy. Near fifty players were in contention for selection, with selectors trimming the squad to 23 following an intensive selection process.
AFL Queensland Regional Manager for the Darling Downs Jeff Neumann, said standout performances during this process had given selectors plenty of headaches.
“Our trial period continues to produce high quality sessions, with players giving their all which has made settling on the final 23 a very difficult process,” Regional Manager Jeff Neumann said.
“At a glance, 50% of the team are top age and we have also included a rookie who was identified through our school programs.
“We are happy with the balance of the squad in terms of its ability to restrict the opposition, but with more than enough offensive ability to kick a competitive score,” Neumann added.
The squad includes the current Under McDonald’s Shield leading goal-scorer through to a set of brothers and current Brisbane Lions Academy members. The Under 14 – Boys AFL Queensland State Championships will be held on the Sunshine Coast from the 18th to 22nd of September.
South Toowoomba player, Tasman Myles has been announced as head-coach with Lauren Jericho (Toowoomba Tigers) and Jordan Myles (South Toowoomba) to assist Tasman.
“We have appointed a young and energetic coaching staff, with two very good, developing assistances along with the experienced Tasman as head-coach,” Neumann said of the coaching appointments.
“The players will not only have coaches but great teaches of the game in Myles, Jericho and Myles.”
Congratulations to the final 23 announced to represent the region in September.
